A pre-war house built during the early 1940s, Tai Hoe was orginally a two storey 12-room hotel that caters to Chinese businessmen and the occasional sailors. In February 1994, the management decided to re-build the hotel to cater to the increasing demand for budget accommodation. The new 6-storey Tai Hoe re-opened in November 1995 with a total of 70 rooms.
